Job Title: Principal Security Architect
Location: St. Louis, MO – Hybrid Onsite, 3 days a week in office
Type: Contract
Duration: 1 year, high potential for extension/conversion
Pay Range: $90 – $110/hour, depending on experience
Project Overview:
We are seeking a Principal Security Architect to support enterprise-level cloud and infrastructure security initiatives and mission-critical architecture projects for a large scale enterprise healthcare organization.
This architect will be responsible for designing secure cloud and container solutions, strengthening API security, and producing high-quality documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Architect secure and scalable cloud solutions across AWS and Azure, especially within EKS and OpenShift environments.
- Lead the design and implementation of secure API architectures, with emphasis on KONG API Gateway following migration from legacy/custom APIs.
- Create written deliverables including security models, architecture documents, and risk assessments aligned with regulatory and enterprise standards.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across architecture, DevOps, cloud engineering, and compliance.
- Mentor peers and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing; strong teamwork and communication are essential.
Skills Required:
- Senior-level AWS Security expertise (IAM, networking, logging, encryption, etc.)
- Proven experience with Kubernetes and OpenShift containerized environments
- Strong API security knowledge – experience with Kong API highly preferred
- Familiarity with Azure security features and practices
- Experience in regulated/compliance industries (healthcare, finance, or government)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to write client-ready architecture documents
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications such as CISSP, AWS Security Specialty, or CKS
- Experience collaborating in a high-functioning architecture team environment
- Demonstrated ability to document and present technical solutions to varied audiences
