Data Engineer – Power BI
Company Overview:
Our Client, a large American energy company – Supplies electricity in parts of Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina and supplies natural gas to parts of Utah, Idaho and Wyoming, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The company generates, transmits and distributes electricity; transmits, distributes, stores, and processes gas; and carries out LNG import and storage operations.
Top 4–5 Must-Haves:
- Power Platform Proficiency
Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform, particularly Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate. This includes building interactive dashboards, automating workflows, and integrating solutions across business units. - SQL Expertise
Minimum 5 years of experience writing complex SQL queries and working with relational databases. Strong understanding of Data Warehousing concepts is required. - DataMart & Dimensional Modeling Experience
Proven experience designing DataMarts using dimensional modeling methodologies to support analytics and reporting. - Integration/API Experience
Familiarity with REST APIs and web services, especially in a system analyst or data engineering context. - ERP Table Knowledge (Nice to Have)
Understanding of ERP table structures is beneficial, especially for integrating data from enterprise platforms.
Soft Skills & Team Fit:
- Strong communication (written and verbal)
- Collaborative mindset; able to work across business units and technical teams
- Self-starter who can operate with limited supervision
- Agile team experience preferred (sprint planning, daily standups, retros)
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Power BI and Snowflake
- Gather and define system requirements and scope with internal stakeholders
- Create systems models, specifications, and documentation
- Perform testing and validation of data systems
- Train users and support system rollouts
- Coach junior team members and act as a subject matter expert
- Document standards, processes, and analytics platform usage
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Info Systems, Business, or related
- 5+ years as a systems analyst in data analytics and warehousing
- 3+ years developing Power BI dashboards
- 5+ years working with SQL and relational databases
- Prior Agile experience a plus
